Invigilo Al provided safety Al Analytics to help improve site safety compliance in Oil & Gas Industry

Overview

In 2023, Invigilo deployed their Al software system in an oil & gas construction project in the East of KSA. This software was mostly used to analyze live CCTV streams from the site to detect various types of safety lapses. Invigilo’s proprietary algorithms were deployed to analyze events such as PPE compliance, machinery safety, person under load, and others. With Invigilo’s technology, the Client was successfully able to reduce the number of safety non-compliances, and cultivate a workplace safety culture.

About the Company

The Client specializes in oil and gas facilities across KSA. They are a global company and one of the largest companies in the world. The Client performs various types of activities in the oil and gas industry, ranging from natural gas extraction to filtration and many others. They have plants all over KSA and other countries.

About the Project

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

Challenges

The site is very complex and cluttered. There is a lot of dust and sand in the atmosphere as well which made it challenging at the beginning. The client also had many different types of activities which the Al software had to analyze.

Approach

Invigilo first engaged with the site managers and also assessed the construction site to observe the site map to estimate the appropriate camera placement locations. Subsequently, an on-site server will be installed along with the appropriate camera models.

A telegram notification channel will also be set up to provide realtime safety alerts to the relevant stakeholders. The AI algorithm will then be trained and tweaked using data collected on-site, so as to improve the accuracy levels of the required detections. Concurrently, safety officers will receive monthly generated safety reports, allowing them to disseminate safety updates and information to workers in an effort to boost safety awareness.

Conclusion

In summary, the AI video analytics solution offered by Invigilo has been proven useful by Client. The company initially faced the issue of recurring safety violations and difficulty in preventing workers from being under suspended loads.

Invigilo then provided an AI algorithm to detect the aforementioned issues and raise them to relevant management teams via a real-time telegram alert channel. Relevant officers are then able to correct safety issues at the site immediately, and these statistics are recorded for future use. Subsequently, using the generated safety reports, Client was able to enhance their safety protocols and cultivate awareness amongst workers to minimise workplace incidents.

Remediation and preventive measures implemented on site

Site teams were able to take necessary actions to correct and reduce safety non-compliances on site. Examples include placing adequate signage, and educating workers on site.

Various types of safety incidents with a decreasing trend

The algorithm also has already started detecting all the different types of safety issues on the site. With this information, along with the alerts and dashboard the safety team has actively seen a decreasing number of incidents identified.

Overall improved safety awareness

The cases of detected safety infractions allowed Client’s safety officers to share statistics using the generated safety report. Over time, as workers are reminded of the rules, the number of safety non-compliances has reduced, as evidenced above.
